BRIO welcomes the opportunity to train residents from all backgrounds of medicine. Training is provided by TSAOG Orthopaedics, where residents will be paired with an orthopaedic specialist to complete their field of orthopaedic study. TSAOG’s specialists include orthopaedic surgeons, hand surgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, anesthesia/pain physicians, podiatrists, musculoskeletal radiologists. TSAOG Orthopaedics also employs physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, who may assist in residency training.

San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC)

SAUSHEC is a joint military service activity consisting of Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) and the 59th Medical Wing (59 MDW). It is an entity for the Department of Defense that provides unified and central management and administration for the military graduate medical education programs that are based in San Antonio, Texas.

BRIO is pleased support this program by providing the financial backing to allow Orthopaedic Surgeons completing their residencies to perform their orthopaedic rotations at TSAOG Orthopaedics.

To date, we have trained seven PGY5 Residents under this program.

University of Incarnate Word/Texas Institute of Graduate Medical Education and Training (TIGMER) Family Medicine Residency Program

First year family practice residents have been working with TSAOG Orthopaedics since July 2017. The purpose of this rotation is to provide exposure and experience in the clinical setting of outpatient evaulation and management of acute and chronic orthopaedic illnesses. Residents work with a multi-disciplinary team to address injury prevention, appropriate indications for surgical intervention, and effective postoperative management.

To date, eight family practice residents and one pain management resident have joined us for their orthopaedic rotations that include clinic and surgical observation, physical therapy, and casting education.
