Over the course of his career, Dr. Stephen Burkhart (BRIO’s Chairman of the Board) has trained 19 fellows in his private fellowship program, many of whom have become leaders and educators in their field and communities around the world. Several of his past fellows have also chosen to join his practice at TSAOG Orthopaedics following the completion of their training.

Dr. Thomas DeBerardino (BRIO’s Executive Director) has been involved in training sports medicine fellows since 1997 and joined TSAOG Orthopaedics in 2016. Beginning in August 2018, BRIO and the Baylor College of Medicine developed a combined Sports Medicine Fellowship program, called the Baylor- San Antonio, Texas Sports Medicine Fellowship. This ACGME accredited sports medicine fellowship selects four sports medicine fellows per year. The fellows train for 6 months with the Baylor part of the program in Houston and the other 6 months with our Faculty here in San Antonio. Dr. DeBerardino is the Co-Director of the fellowship in San Antonio with Dr. Bruce Mosely as the Co-Director at the Baylor College of Medicine sponsoring academic institution in Houston.
